The End of the Performance Review: A New Approach to Appraising Employee Performance

What do Adobe, Microsoft, Lear, Deloitte, and Accenture have in common?

All of them have abolished their performance appraisal systems. Others such as the BBC in the UK have scrapped their ratings system. There is a distinct shift away from the performance appraisal of employees toward performance development. Is this a wise move?

Dr. Tim Baker, PhD, a thought leader with an international reputation in performance management believes it is a wise move. In some respects, he is one of the reasons for this shift from performance reviews to performance development. The title of one of his seven books on the topic ought to telegraph this: The End of the Performance Review: A New Approach to Appraising Employee Performance.

According to Dr. Baker, there is no credible research anywhere that demonstrates that appraisals actually increase performance. What's more, his own research suggests that it is actually harmful rather than helpful. If reputable organisations are doing away with the appraisal, or at least the ratings systems, then why do so many companies persist with it?

In this FREE webinar, Dr. Baker will share his insights on this topical issue. He will share with you his alternative approach: The Five Conversations Framework, and how it can be implemented, either as a substitute for the performance review or as an enabler to improve the quality of the review process. The Five Conversations Framework is being implemented in many countries around the world and the fresh approach is getting excellent feedback both from managers and employees.

By joining this thought-provoking webinar, you will:

  • Understand the difference between performance development and performance appraisal and why how they should be done
  • Apply several tools for developing a culture of conversation around the development of performance
  • Understand why several organisations are moving away from traditional performance reviews and what they are replacing them with.
