    TOKYO- Seven & i Holdings said Monday that it will increase monthly salaries at its group companies by 5,229 yen from April. The companies include Ito-Yokado stores and 7-Eleven convenience stores.The pay rise will be the first since 2009. It comes in response to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s call to the private sector to raise wages in order to stop the deflationary trend in the economy.

    Fujitsu has announced plans to hire 500 university graduates in April 2014. Although the number of new hires will decrease compared to this year due to the severe business environment, Fujitsu said it will continue to recruit a diverse group of university graduates to enhance its global business for positions in R&D, system engineering, sales, administration and other divisions throughout the company to sustain growth in its ICT solutions, services, and products businesses.

    Japan's unemployment rate edged down to 4.2 per cent in January while the struggling economy remains mired in deflation. The jobless rate slipped to 4.2 per cent from a revised 4.3 percent in December, data from the internal affairs ministry showed on Friday. The figure was in line with economists' expectations.
