Takahashi, who directs
Takamasa & Co. Ltd., spoke to his father, his boss at the family company that employed 90. Each of our workers, Takahashi said, supports about three family members. If we can boost our employment to 200, they'll support 600. That totals 800 people, more than 10 percent of the town's remaining population. And so Takamasa expanded even as the local economy tanked. The company built a $17 million factory and showroom, a project planned before the tsunami. It rented its old quarters to competitors -- anything to boost employment.
