(TEPCO) had more than 50 retired bureaucrats working for the utility firm as of the end of August -- a widespread practice in Japan called "amakudari," or "descent from heaven" -- the Mainichi has learned, and former bureaucrats acknowledged that cozy ties between the government and utility firms were a key factor behind the country's lax rules governing nuclear power generation.

    TOKYO (Reuters) - Tokyo Electric Power Co <9501.T> will be advised to cut 7,400 jobs, or about 14 percent of its full-time employees, by March 2014 as part of a plan to help it pay compensation for the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, the Yomiuri newspaper said on Wednesday.

    Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco), the owner of the stricken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, is considering cutting thousands of jobs. Reports say Tepco has told a government backed committee that it may cut as many as 5,000 jobs or 10% of its workforce.

    Tokyo - Infosys Limited announced a donation of JPY 20,105,541 (US$ 259,695) towards relief and rebuilding efforts for the victims of the 2011 earthquake off the Pacific coast of Tohoku in Japan. The contributions have been made voluntarily by 133,500 Infosys employees belonging to 88 different nationalities from across the globe.
