The Japan HR Society (JHRS) officially appointed
Ms. Elizabeth Handover, President, Intrapersona KK and Lumina Learning Partner for Asia, as Chief Advocate of JHRS'
Women in HR Advocacy program during the recently concluded
JHRS Annual Shin Nen Kai 2014 celebrations at Legato Restaurant in downtown Tokyo.
In an oath taking ceremony officiated by JHRS Chief Community Officer, Jun Kabigting, MBA/MS/HRMP, Ms. Handover has been tasked to provide overall leadership and responsibility in advancing the Advocacy’s mission, vision, goals & objectives.
The JHRS Women in HR Advocacy aims to: 1.) Raise awareness of the contribution of women HR practitioners in organizations in Japan and of their unique opportunity to champion change; 2. Create professional development opportunities that support the advancement of women HR practitioners; and, 3.) Engage in research and community activities that foster a workplace in which women and can fully express their talents and career aspirations.
Ms. Handover commented in her acceptance speech that women's activism in Japan is at its highest level now driven by the womenomics policies that Japan's Abenomics are actively promoting. She also highlighted the assumption to offices of women leaders to prestigious roles such as US Ambassador to Japan and the newly elected President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ), considered to be the most influential foreign chamber in Japan. "For whatever reason, the stars seem to be aligning with each other to give way to a new era of women empowerment in Japan and I feel honored that I am being given an opportunity to be part of this exciting development as Chief Advocate of JHRS Women in HR Advocacy together with my other work in advancing the women's cause in Japan," said Handover.
Her initial two-year term starts from 01 January 2014 to 31 December 2015.
