    Dear Members,

I received many reminders of this global event from friends outside of Japan.

I decided to investigate how women in Japan were celebrating 'our' global day and consulted the international portal site:  <http://www.internationalwomensday.com/events.asp>

Alas, I see no Japan-based events listed on this site.

If you, readers, are aware of any IWD activities scheduled in Japan, please post here and also on the IWD website.

The absence of activity caused me to recall my days in Tokyo as an American exchange student.  In that I am rather senior, these occurred in the late 70's.  What I vividly recall from that period was an active women's moment, street demonstrations, and considerable attention paid by the media to the status of women in Japan.

I am wondering if JHRS members have thoughts about what seems to be diminished interest in improving the status of women in Japan.

It seems to me that those of us who wish to support the advancement of women in the HR roles and in the workplace have an uphill battle if there is not general awareness and concern about status of women in society.

    All thoughts welcome.

    Leslie
