    According to figures released by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare on Tuesday, nominal average monthly cash earnings per regular employee in Japan rose 1.1% year-on-year to Y271,621 in May. Overtime pay fell 3.2% in May, according to the data.

    Base wages fell 0.4% in May, for the fifth straight month with a year-on-yeah drop.

        TEPCO began in late April paying preliminary compensation to victims of the nuclear disaster. For example, up to 1 million yen is paid to households who evacuated due to the nuclear crisis, and as of late May, up to 2.5 million yen can be paid to people in agriculture, forestry and fisheries businesses affected by the incident.
